11th Annual Networking Seminar: 9 Days!

Not sure what you want to do when you graduate? Are you a freshman still figuring out what you can do in STHM? Then the 11th Annual Networking Seminar is for you! We have 20 vendors from the tourism, hospitality, sport, and recreation fields coming to Temple University’s Liacouras Center on Wednesday, April 21 from 5-7 PM. Cost is FREE. Dress is business professional. Resumes are not accepted (business cards only). This is your chance to pick the brain of industry professionals to find out how they got to where they are now!

The University of Pennsylvania is an Ivy League school located in West Philadelphia. Penn’s athletic program plays host to 16 different sports, many of them for both men and women. Penn-Recreation provides students with fitness programs and sports at both the club and intramural level for men and women.

The “SWB Yankees” are the AAA affiliate team of the New York Yankees. They made PNC Bank Field in Moosic, Pennsylvania their home in 2007. In 2009 they finished their season as runner-up in the International League Championship. Roger Clemens and Jason Giambi have both played as a Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankee.

The Holiday Inn Express Midtown is an affordable hotel located in the heart of Downtown Philadelphia. The hotel offers many amenities to its guests as well as easy access to many attractions in the downtown area. The Philadelphia Convention Center is within walking distance as well as many businesses and restaurants.

The HUB was established by John New and Bill Decker as a professional meeting place for companies. They also host parties, lunches, and a variety of other hospitality events. The HUB offers amenities such as digital projectors and screens, whiteboards, high-speed wireless internet, big screen televisions and much more.

In 2005 Ed Snider owner of the Philadelphia Flyers hockey team, created the Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation. The organization serves youths in the greater Philadelphia area by providing them with the tools necessary to learn the game of hockey and also stresses the importance of academics and citizenship.

Chima Brazilian Steakhouse opened in the United States in 2004 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Since then they have opened locations in Virginia, North Carolina, and Philadelphia. Chima offers an one-of-a-kind dining experience with over sixteen choices of meats, a salad bar, and a variety of wines and champaigns from across the world.

Ardent Meeting and Event Management is a nation full-service meeting and event management company. Ardent serves a variety of organizations including non-profits, private events, and for-profit corporations. The company also performs contract marketing, advertising, and planning services for unique venues.

The Liacouras Center, formerly known as the Apollo of Temple was dedicated and renamed for Temple University president, Peter J. Liacouras on February 12, 2000. The Liacouras Center, managed by Global Spectrum, can hold up to 10.200 attendees and plays host to athletic competitions, concerts, and dramatic presentations.

The Trenton Thunder are the AA affiliate of the New York Yankees. They relocated from Glen Falls, New York to the Mercer County Waterfront located along the Delaware waterfront in Trenton, New Jersey. The team holds the record as the first minor league team to have over 400.000 fans in attendance over twelve consecutive seasons.

Sesame Place provides children and families with fun-filled days including rides, shows, and interaction with characters. The park has accommodations for visitors from all demographics and has numerous different packages for one or two day visits.

The Spirit of Philadelphia is a unique dining experience that takes place on a cruise ship that also offers entertainment and dancing at affordable prices. The ship’s route takes you along the Delaware River and allows you to view the Philadelphia and Camden skylines. They accommodate events such as birthdays, reunions, weddings, and a variety of theme cruises for groups as large as 500.

Originally known as the Bureau of Recreation, Philadelphia Recreation Department was renamed in 1952. The department offers a variety of services to citizens including youth programs, camps, teen centers, culture and arts programs, and programs for those with disabilities. On July 1, 2010 the department will combine with Fairmont Park to become the Philadelphia Department of Parks and Recreation.

Global Spectrum provides management, marketing, operations, and event booking services for multiple entertainment facilities across the nation. They are the subsidiary for Comcast-Spectacor, a Philadelphia based entertainment firm which oversees the Wachovia Center, Philadelphia 76ers, Philadelphia Flyers, and Comcast SportsNet.

Ride the Ducks is the nation’s largest amphibious tour operator and vehicle manufacturer. They host tours in locations such as San Francisco, Seattle, Stone Mountain Park, Newport, and Philadelphia. The company is owned by the Herschend Family Entertainment Corporation which also owns, operates, or collaborates with over 20 properties in multiple states.

Under athletics director Bill Bradshaw, Temple University Athletics has developed and added numerous sports and recreation programs for its students, while still dedicated to having its athletes pursue success in and out of the classroom. Temple University was one of the first universities in the country to sponsor extracurricular activities for their students.

The Philadelphia Union was awarded the rights to be considered Major League Soccer’s 16th team on February 28, 2008. The team is named in conjunction with the 13 colonies, with Philadelphia being the first capital. The Union is a new team to not only the area but also MLS, they began their first season of play on March 28, 2010.

The Trump Taj Mahal Casino & Resort in Atlantic City brings visitors a world of pleasure and excitement. The casino/hotel contains five-star restaurants, entertainment, lounges, nightclubs and casino gaming. They offer a variety of amenities to their guests and are at the top of their game when it comes to being an icon in the casino/hotel industry.

The Four Points by Sheridan is located conveniently close to the Philadelphia International Airport and only a short drive from many of the city’s attractions and the sports complexes. The hotel contains all newly renovated suites, 3,600 square feet of meeting space, a gym, bar area, and living room.

The Holiday Inn Historic District is in the perfect location for any Philadelphia history buff. The hotel is located in the heart of Old City and within walking distance of the Liberty Bell, the National Constitution Center, and Independence Hall. This 7 floor, 364 room hotel is the perfect place to stay and soak up the rich history of Philadelphia.
